The Development Standing Committee is one of the standing committees constituted in Local Self-Government Institutions. Its major responsibilities include local economic development, agricultural and industrial development, and project planning.

Major Responsibilities and Functions

• Agriculture and Animal Husbandry: Promoting paddy and vegetable cultivation and providing subsidies and assistance to farmers.
• Small-Scale Industries: Providing technical and financial support for starting local small-scale and cottage industries.
• Traditional Sectors: Formulating projects to protect and promote traditional industries such as coir, handloom and pottery.
• Project Implementation: Examining and implementing development-related matters included in the annual plans of the Panchayat/Municipality.
