About Pallom Block Panchayat

Pallom Block Panchayat is a Local Self Government Institution situated in Kottayam Taluk of Kottayam District, Kerala, covering an area of 211.95 sq. km. The administrative headquarters of the Block Panchayat is located at Vadavathoor, Kottayam.

The Block Panchayat was officially formed on 1 October 1995.

Formation and History

Development Blocks were introduced across India on 2 October 1953. With the implementation of the three-tier Panchayati Raj system in Kerala in 1995, democratically elected local governing bodies came into existence at the Block level.

The Block Office was initially established at Pallom, which was then part of Kottayam Municipality. Later, the present Block Office building was constructed on 2 acres of land donated at Vadavathoor by Shri. Thomas Alexander Jacob (Kaithayil Sunny).

Before the 2010 election, a major delimitation of boundaries brought significant changes to the jurisdiction of Pallom Block. Kumarakom and Thiruvathukkal Panchayats were transferred to Ettumanoor Block, Nattakom Panchayat was transferred to Kottayam Municipality, and Manarcad Panchayat was transferred to Pampady Block.

Kurichy Panchayat was transferred from Madappally Block and included in Pallom Block Panchayat.
